Storm Watch: Danger of Mother Nature
25 June 2009
My first experience with Midwestern weather was in a small town near the University of Illinois where I was studying, of all things, meteorology and oceanography. I grew up on the Northwestern coast and I thought I had seen serious storms in my life. Very large storm systems or “lows” would roll off Alaska and the Aleutian islands and hammer the Pacific Northwest with some major storms. This is why cities like Seattle and Portland have so much rain. I did not think that the Midwest had anything more to offer, but I was wrong.
While attending courses in meteorology, we experienced a thunderstorm like I had never seen. The power of the storm was amazing. After thinking about this for a while I realized that the reason that this was true was because the Midwest was so flat. There was nothing in this region to break apart the storm. In the Pacific, there are mountains that take the brunt of the storms energy so you do not suffer the sort of hail damage that you do in the Midwest. I had never seen hail damage like I did when I was in the Midwest. It surprised me. If you are concerned about roof hail damage, be sure to contact Evergreen Construction for help. They will make sure that you are taken care of.
Storm Watch: Finally a break
24 June 2009
After taking a pounding for the last several days, the Midwest and Southwest regions of the country are finally enjoying a long deserved break. There are some heat warnings and advisories out there as well as some flooding advisories, but not significant thunderstorms are forecast for the area. That makes this the perfect time to inspect your home and see if you have sustained any roof hail damage. This should be easy to see as the shingles themselves will appear to be pitted. Pay careful attention to this because you may need to address this problem right away.
That is where we can help you. Evergreen Construction has been in the business of repair for many years and you will find that we have quite of few credentials’ to back us up. There are many people who will qualify for tax breaks concerning hail damage so this really is the perfect time to make sure that your roof is protecting your home to its maximum ability. Hail damage alone can really be a nightmare for the home owner because it is the one area that is most exposed to extreme weather. Be sure to with us and see how we can help you.
Storm Watch: More expected for Minnesota
23 June 2009
While much of the Midwest region of the United States is suffering under a heat wave, the people of Minnesota can expect some of the worst storms of the year. There is a front here that is moving in the direction of the southeast and it is packing some very serious storm cells. In fact, just about the entire state of Minnesota is under a severe thunderstorm warning for today. You do not see that very often. Typically, you can find small areas of severe thunderstorms with other local storms nearby, but rarely do you see the entire state threatened.
Do not expect these storms to go away any time soon. You may get lulls in the storm, but that does not mean that you should consider the storm to have passed. With this large of a storm, you can expect a lot of hail damage, and in particular, roof hail damage. Some of the reports from early this morning were of hail in the area the size of nickels. This is bound to cause some hail damage. There is nothing you can do about this, but be prepared to contact a roofing contractor as soon as possible.
Storm Watch: Summer officially here
22 June 2009
Summer is officially here. I am saying this both as a true statement and metaphorically. June 21-22 is when the tilt of the earth makes the northern hemisphere catch most of the suns energy. This is the farthest north that the earth will tilt for the rest of the year. Metaphorically, I am talking about the storms that have ripped through the Midwest and Southeastern regions of the United States recently. Within the last week, there were all sorts of warnings and updates issued for storm cells that seemed to grow quite large.
Just today there are large areas where warnings have been issued for heat and floods. There seems to be nothing new under the sun. People here are so used to these types of conditions that they are prepared for anything. Every year at this time, people’s homes suffer from hail damage. Hail damage can be really bad because it can threaten the integrity of the entire home. Because of this, you will need to keep a close eye on the weather and an even closer eye on your roofing contractor’s phone number. We will keep you informed of the weather and assist you with any repairs.
The Midwest and Southwest regions of the United States have really taken a beating from summertime storms over the last week. There have been many tornado watches and warnings that have been issued and it does not look like it will end any time soon. This is not good news if you live in this region because with storms you can sustain damage to your home and property and nobody wants to see this. Current radar and warnings are not as bad as they have been over the last few days but this is only a lull in the storm.
If you are lucky enough to get a break from the weather then now might be a good time to inspect your home for damage. In particular, you should look for hail damage to your roof. Should the roof be damaged and you are not yet aware of it, it will open up the possibility for flooding and all other sorts of problems. Hail damage is serious business and you will want a roofing contractor with the experience to take care of your problem. Call Evergreen Construction the next time you need your home repaired.
Storm-Watch: More foul weather for Minnesota
18 June 2009
It just seems that Minnesota can catch a break anymore. For the last several days the state has endured thunder cell after thunder cell. I have watched closely the warning being issued and it is quite disturbing. Today’s warnings were even worse. For central/western Minnesota there has been a tornado warning issued. This is important to not because there are both “watches” and “warnings” released by NOAA. A warning is the worst of the two and it suggests that tornados are imminent. In addition to this, there has also been a gale warning issued for the area.
Of course with tornados you can expect a lot of hail damage. If hail damage were not bad enough, now people have to contend with gale force wind conditions and the possibility of tornados. There will almost certainly be a lot of hail roof damage caused by this most recent storm, but you do not need to worry about this. That is because there are contractors out there with the experience and ability to help you. The people from Evergreen Construction can get your repairs started right away and they can have an appraiser out to your place in no time.
Watching the storms roll through the Midwest has been interesting this year. Yesterday there was a lot of activity over North Dakota and into Minnesota. It will be like this all summer long. Yesterday several tornado warnings issued for that area and the thunder cells were particularly large. It does not appear as if things will let up any time soon. The cells have moved south from where they were yesterday, but there are still flood warnings for the area.
Now it appears that a large cell has formed over eastern Nebraska and this is the heart of the front for today. The cell is much larger than yesterday’s cell so you can expect an unusual amount of tornado activity and hail damage in this area. Hail damage can be brutal and I really feel for people who have to park their cars outside. Of course everyone is exposed to roof hail damage. There really is no escaping this. It is best to be prepared. If you don’t have insurance that covers your roof, then this is the time to get it. In addition, make sure that you know a good roofing contractor like the folks at Evergreen Construction.
Storm Watch: Heavy weather headed for Minnesota
16 June 2009
Throughout the day, I have been watching a storm develop over the Midwest. As the day has heated up these storm watches turned into storm warnings, and now that same system is headed directly for Minnesota. In fact, in the western border of the state there has been a tornado warning issued just recently. These storms are forming because the cold arctic air of the north is moving south and mixing with warm and humid air from the Gulf of Mexico. This is always such a dangerous scenario that you must watch out for.
These storms can cause serious hail damage so you really need to be careful. Tornados this severe only come out of cumulonimbus or cumulonimbus mammatus clouds. These types of clouds also just happen to be the most dangerous and violent clouds created. There is so much updraft in these clouds that the hail that is formed can be enormous. That is in addition to the danger of tornados and wind shear that they produce as well. This storm is particularly powerful so you will want to keep an eye out for possible hail damage to your home.
Storm Watch: Current warnings and advisories
16 June 2009
Out of all the things that the weather brings us, there is nothing more serious than a tornado. Of course, you can consider hurricanes because they can devastate such a large area for a long period of time, but the focused power of a tornado makes it especially dangerous. This is tornado season, so you can be expecting some pretty severe weather in the coming months. Now there are currently warnings issued for North and South Dakota, and this storm system is headed directly for Minnesota. There are some things that yo will need to be aware of.
The front of the storm cloud, or wall, is where you will find some very serious weather. Here you have microbursts which are severe down drafts of wind. These can cause a lot of roof damage. It is also in this area that you will find hail. If a storm is large enough to produce a tornado, then you can be certain that you will sustain serious hail damage. If the cloud is directly over you, you can tell the severity of what is to come by observing the bottom of the cloud. If it appears that the bottom of the cloud is boiling, then you can be certain that hail damage is on the way.
