Hail Damage: Potomac Region
28 April 2009
There are only two major systems that are affecting the United States at this time. The first is in the arid regions of Arizona and Nevada. The second is affecting the areas of the Potomac River. This is the effects of a cold front that has been moving through the area. At this time of the year, the Gulf Stream is adding warm and moist air that is combining with the cold and dry air of the air of the arctic. This is creating some storm cells that can be quite large and that can cause some serious roofing hail damage.
What is happening is that the cold and dry air is cutting under the warm and moist air and literally lifting it up. With all the moisture in the warm air, this creates storm cells that can become quite large. These cells have enough uplift to create hail that is quite large. Because of this, hail damage is a real possibility for the area of the Potomac River right now. Washington D.C., Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, West Virginia and New York are under threat of serious hail damage. Pay close attention to the direction of this storm because it could affect you.
